Global Witness and Ministry
Dr. George F. Flowers, Executive Director

“Now when these things were ordained, the priests went away into the first tabernacle accomplishing the service of God.” (Hebrews 9:6)

The privilege of serving God and shepherding His people has been an exclusive calling and directed mission for the Department of Global Witness and Ministry-AME Church, which is based in Charleston, South Carolina. It is without reservation and with definitive passion that we embrace the call of God to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ – educating all we encounter while building faith principles among believers and seekers. We believe it to be our duty to extend ourselves to communities, cultures, countries and populations to advance God’s purpose, provide spiritual guidance and promote faith-based customs for all.

Our past is certainly prologue as we reflect back on our beginnings. The Department of Global Witness and Ministry is a division of the African Methodist Episcopal Church; empowered by God and led by His word. Global Witness and Ministry-AMEC, launched preaching and teaching events—liberating a congregation of believers and inspiring Christian’s servitude at all levels. Armed with reverence for God’s work, our purpose has been to cultivate spiritual excellence among believers and extend the human hand to those who are broken-hearted, spiritually disenfranchised and morally disconnected.

GWM has enjoyed a journey of partnership and hope. Our local and international programs have focused on championed ministries that are committed to broadcasting: justice and peace, durable solutions for the displaced, hunger and poverty alleviation, water for life, HIV/AIDS in the world, and disaster relief and management training. We have blended traditional, spiritual, cultural and political perspectives of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and inherited a legacy of service as highlighted:

The comprehensive goal for the Global Witness and Ministry Department is one that is shared throughout the African Methodist Episcopal Church – first, we serve God, then others.  We understand that the caliber of our service to humankind is distinguished as our love for Christ; therefore, we are committed to achieving enormous results as highly principled, godly agents of the AMEC. Episcopal Districts 14-20 provide us with the stimulus to serve passionately and continuously as we see evidence of people discovering ways to have an abundant life with God at the helm.

It is my pleasure to serve God and the African Methodist Episcopal Church. As Executive Director of the Department of Global Witness and Ministry I find the scriptures, “You are indeed the salt of the earth…you are the light of the world” to be profoundly applicable to our collective work. Our work is destined to continue.
